Five masked men allegedly held three people hostage and escaped with approximately $23 million during an armed robbery at a La Grange hardware store on Friday evening.
Police said four of the suspects appeared to be armed with guns when they entered the business on the West Bank of Demerara around 6:20 p.m.
The men reportedly gained access by climbing over the southern fence from the direction of the Demerara River. They then entered the building, held three Chinese nationals hostage and removed cash being stored under a bed.
The suspects allegedly escaped through a fence at the back of the property.
Police have reviewed surveillance footage and questioned several people as the investigation continues.
