Multiple people were wounded in a blast at Riyadh’s international airport on Saturday, forcing evacuations and further disrupting flights to the Saudi capital, Reuters reported, citing witnesses and people briefed on the incident.

Incoming flights were diverted or cancelled, according to flight-tracking data. Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways cancelled several services, with some cancellations extending into Monday. Passengers have been urged to contact their airlines and check flight status before heading to the airport.

The disruption follows two attacks on the airport earlier this week that Reuters reported killed four people and damaged an aircraft. The incidents come amid escalating strikes by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis have warned airlines to avoid Saudi airspace after a Saudi-backed Yemeni government offensive against the group earlier this month, raising concerns for civilian aviation and travellers using routes into the kingdom.

Saudi authorities had not immediately commented on Saturday’s blast when Reuters published its report. No confirmed injury total was available.
