A canter travelling east along the Mahaica Public Road struck Guyana Power and Light’s electrical infrastructure on Saturday afternoon, damaging the network and prompting a police investigation.
GPL said the collision occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 10. The driver was taken into custody at the Mahaica Police Station.
According to the utility, its investigator visited the scene and photographs were taken to document the damage. GPL also said the driver indicated a willingness to compensate for the damage.
The company did not specify the extent of the damage, whether customers lost electricity or how long repairs would take. Its statement also did not report any injuries.
GPL warned that collisions involving electrical infrastructure can cause serious injury or death, disrupt electricity supply and leave hazards for other road users and the public.
The utility described the crash as another incident of vehicular damage to its network and urged motorists to remain alert and exercise caution.
