ERC seeks public input on racial equality and constitutional reform Guyanese will have an opportunity to recommend ways to strengthen constitutional protections against ethnic discrimination at a public consultation hosted by the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) on Tuesday, October 13.
The consultation will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in Liliendaal. All citizens are invited to participate.
Discussions will focus on ethnic relations, equality, inclusion, ethnic security and the effectiveness of institutions responsible for preventing discrimination and promoting equal treatment.
The ERC will compile participants’ recommendations into a report for the Constitution Reform Commission, which is accepting written proposals until December 31, 2026.
The ERC is constitutionally mandated to promote ethnic harmony and equal opportunity and address discrimination.
The consultation will also introduce the ERC’s draft Glossary of Ethnically Sensitive Terms. Participants will be able to provide detailed feedback on the glossary at a later date.
