A 21-year-old driver died on Monday evening when his car toppled several times and came to rest in a ditch along the 35 km Puruni Trail, Cuyuni-Mazaruni.
Dead is Anthony Allen of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica. The crash occurred around 6:20pm.

Police said Allen was driving motor car PAR 6448 east along the trail and was negotiating a right bend when he reportedly lost control. The car came to rest in a ditch on the northern side of the trail.

Public-spirited citizens removed Allen and his 18-year-old passenger, a gold miner of Potaro Road, Bartica, and took them to the Bartica Regional Hospital. A doctor on duty pronounced Allen dead on arrival.

The passenger was treated for injuries and admitted. His condition is stable.

Allen's body is at the Bartica Regional Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations continue.
