Two US companies are preparing to work together to build 10,000 affordable homes in Guyana with financing from the US Export-Import Bank (EXIM), US Ambassador to Guyana Nicole Theriot said.

Theriot made the announcement during the Guyana Energy Perspectives podcast, saying US companies US Frame Factory, based in Louisiana, and Golden Shield, based in Indiana, would collaborate on the housing project.

“The US Export-Import Bank is going to be providing funding for affordable housing construction,” Theriot said, adding that the two companies would construct 10,000 homes in Guyana.

She said the project was intended to make homeownership more accessible to average Guyanese, rather than being limited to higher-income households.

The announcement adds housing to a growing area of US-Guyana economic cooperation, with US EXIM already involved in financing major projects in Guyana. In December 2024, the bank approved more than US$526 million for Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy project.

Guyana and US EXIM had previously established a framework for up to US$2 billion in financing for projects including infrastructure, energy, telecommunications, water and sanitation, and agriculture.
