A mother is calling for justice after her 23-year-old son succumbed to chop wounds at Friendship Village, Corentyne, late Monday night, saying she watched four men brutally attack him.
Geeta Devi, 45, said she witnessed the attack on her son, Chittesh Sukhai, also known as “Rohan” and “Marsho.”
“Me stand up and see them kill my son. Me want justice in my son,” she said.
“My son do not fight nobody. A whole village of my son a friend. My son not trouble nobody,” she added.
Police said Sukhai was attacked at about 11:40pm after an argument with a female relative. Preliminary investigations indicate that several males then arrived armed with cutlasses and chopped him several times about the body. He reportedly fled but collapsed in a nearby yard.
Two men, aged 27 and 23, have been arrested and remain in custody.
Devi said tension had existed between her son and a relative since late August.
“Only the auntie slapped him up at the supermarket and that is the story that get for my son up to now them a run him every day. Me had to send him and go hide him at his friend house. Last night he come house and said 'mommy ma come house come bathe and ma go eat some food,'” she said.
She said Sukhai later told her he was going to a neighbour's house. Before he could return, she heard his aunt shouting and allegedly ordering several men to kill him.
“The auntie at the back house, and talk say 'Ayo kill am' say, me get money mi go take out ayo.' When me turn back and watch, me see four of them on my son chopping him up,” she said.
Devi said she lost sight of her son during the commotion and later found him lying on the grass.
Sukhai's sister, Roshanie Sudhu, said the family was later told he had been rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Sudhu alleged that four men, two cousins and two of their friends, attacked him with cutlasses, and that the mother of one of the men supplied the weapons.
“They chopped him up bad. He didn't deserve chopping like that. If them wanted, they could have broke his hand or his foot,” she said.
