Thieves broke into a Corentyne company over the weekend and stole about $1.326 million in cash, leaving computers and brand-new cellular phones untouched, police said.

Police said the break-in at Target Logistic Inc. on the Williamsburg Public Road occurred between 4:30pm on Saturday and 8am on Monday.

A 36-year-old supervisor left a 21-year-old customer service representative in charge on Saturday while attending a meeting in Georgetown. The employee placed the day's sales of $1,326,000 in a grey tin on a counter, then secured the building and left at about 2:20pm without locking the money in the safe.

When the supervisor returned at about 8am on Monday, she found three louvre panes missing from a window on the southern side, a section of the steel grill forced open and the western door open. The employee, who arrived shortly afterwards, admitted she had left the cash in the tin, which was found missing.

Police believe the perpetrator or perpetrators entered through the window and left through the western door.

The matter was reported to the Rose Hall Town Police Station. Police canvassed the area and identified several CCTV cameras, including some at the building. Several persons have been questioned, but no useful information has been obtained so far.
