Chittesh Sukhai, a 23-year-old labourer, died after he was allegedly chopped several times at Friendship Village, Corentyne, Berbice, on Monday night.
Sukhai, called "Rohan" and "Marsho", of the same village, was attacked around 11:40pm on Monday.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he was involved in an argument with a female relative, after which several men reportedly arrived at the location armed with cutlasses. He was allegedly chopped several times about his body, ran from the location and collapsed in a nearby yard.

Sukhai was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while being treated. His body was taken to Ramoo’s Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Two cutlasses suspected to have been used in the incident were recovered in the vicinity.

Police subsequently arrested two men, aged 27 and 23, of Friendship and Limlair Villages, Corentyne, respectively, in connection with the incident. Both remain in custody as investigations continue.
