Aviation training school achieves international Gold Standard recognition

Colonel Fields receives the recognition in Morocco

The Civil Aviation Training School (CATS) has been awarded Gold Standard status under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) TRAINAIR PLUS Programme, upgrading from its previous Bronze accreditation.

The designation was conferred during the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS), held in Marrakech, Morocco, marking a milestone for aviation training in Guyana and the wider region.

The ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Gold Standard is among the highest recognitions in global aviation training, certifying that institutions meet and exceed international standards and are authorised to develop and deliver ICAO-approved courses.

“This achievement reflects the unwavering commitment of our instructors and staff to deliver world-class aviation training,” said Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Egbert Field, Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority.

He said the accreditation underscores Guyana’s “growing influence on the global aviation stage”.
CATS said the upgraded status strengthens its position as a regional training hub, enabling it to attract aviation professionals from across the Caribbean, South America and beyond.

The School has already trained participants from Guyana, Suriname, Barbados, The Bahamas, the Cayman Islands and St Lucia through both in-person and virtual programmes since joining TRAINAIR PLUS.

The Gold Standard status is expected to boost enrolment, expand international partnerships and support the development of a highly skilled aviation workforce in the region.

ICAO’s TRAINAIR PLUS Programme is a global network of aviation training organisations aimed at standardising and improving aviation training quality worldwide.
