A reconstructed Imbotero Wharf, a new police boathouse, and the rebuilt Imbotero Police Station along the Barima River were commissioned today, marking a major security boost in Region One valued at over $200 million.
Speaking at the ceremony, Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Walrond said the projects are part of a strategy to strengthen law enforcement capacity and safeguard Guyana’s borders.
“Border communities are not the edges of Guyana, they are the frontline of our sovereignty,” she stated.
The upgraded facilities will expand river patrols, enhance monitoring along the Barima River corridor, and allow faster responses to incidents in surrounding communities, reflecting continued investment in security infrastructure and state presence in hinterland regions.
