The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening regional collaboration in the energy sector and expanding opportunities for businesses in Guyana.
The agreement was signed at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston by GCCI President Kathy Smith and Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago President Priya Marajh.
GCCI, in a Facebook post, said the MoU provides a framework for cooperation in areas including development of Guyana’s energy sector, removal of trade barriers for Guyanese exports to Trinidad and Tobago, knowledge exchange, networking opportunities, and joint initiatives such as event planning.
Smith said the agreement is intended to build capacity among Guyanese businesses in the energy industry.
“Trinidad has always been a senior country as it relates to the development of oil and gas,” she said, referring to Trinidad and Tobago’s longstanding experience in the petroleum sector and Guyana’s emerging role in the global energy industry.
Marajh said the partnership is expected to create opportunities for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises through collaboration and knowledge sharing between members of both chambers.
“What we’re going to learn, and what’s important for me with this MoU is the value added that it’s going to bring to some of our smaller members and some of the partnerships that they’re able to forge with members from GCCI,” she said.
The agreement follows a visit by Smith to Trinidad in late 2025, during which she engaged the Energy Chamber on areas of mutual interest.
