Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago have been invited to a high level meeting with United States President Donald Trump in March. President Dr Irfaan Ali and Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister, Kamla Persad Bissessar, confirmed the invitation on the sidelines of the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting in St Kitts and Nevis.

The engagement, scheduled to be held in Miami, will focus primarily on regional security matters and enhancing coordination on shared challenges.
President Ali told reporters that security has been a central theme in the growing bilateral relationship between Guyana and the United States, and the meeting will provide an opportunity to build on that cooperation.

He also held a “very positive” discussion with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the CARICOM summit, centred on regional challenges including Venezuela and Cuba.
Both Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago are reported to be the only CARICOM states invited to the March meeting.
