The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) said it has withdrawn all tax-related charges against U.S.-sanctioned businessmen Nazar Mohamed and Azruddin Mohamed of Mohamed’s Enterprise, following a formal extradition request from the United States.
The charges, filed on October 24, 2025, were discontinued on Thursday after the Government of Guyana agreed to proceed with the extradition process.
In its statement, the GRA explained that the charges had been filed before the extradition request was received and that the decision to withdraw them was guided by international legal principles of fairness, comity, and appropriateness.
Earlier in the day, the duo appeared before Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty, where the GRA prosecutor formally informed the court that the proceedings were being dropped. The charges had alleged that the businessmen underreported a combined $32.69 billion in income from gold exports between 2020 and 2024.
Attorneys Siand Dhurjon and Damien Da Silva represented the Mohameds. The withdrawal now clears the way for extradition proceedings to move forward.
