Top finalists in the national environmental speech competition were given a first-hand look at conservation efforts, climate resilience initiatives and sustainability practices during an immersive programme hosted by ExxonMobil Guyana as part of SHOUT4Change 2026.
The top 20 finalists participated in the May 23 programme, which focused on environmental awareness, conservation and Guyana’s low-carbon development efforts.
The competition, now in its fourth year, is implemented by Recover Guyana in partnership with the Ministry of Education, with support from ExxonMobil Guyana.
Finalists received an operational overview from ExxonMobil Guyana representatives, with emphasis on the company’s environmental management and sustainability practices.
Representatives of the Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development also presented on the Guyana Conservation Initiative and its alignment with Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030.
Supported through a multi-year grant from the ExxonMobil Foundation, the initiative promotes marine and conservation awareness, ecosystem restoration, livelihood projects, and community support in coastal and hinterland communities.
Participants later toured the Mangrove Information Centre, where they learned about the role of mangroves in coastal protection, biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.
The programme concluded with a visit to the Turkeyen Seawall Mural, highlighting how public art and community engagement can be used to promote environmental awareness.
SHOUT4Change aims to equip young people across Guyana with the knowledge and confidence to advocate for a more sustainable future.
