The local aviation sector has recorded a 41 per cent increase in aviation assets over the past five years, as the country continues to expand its aviation infrastructure, safety systems and international presence.

This is according to Minister of Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar, who was speaking at the recent announcement of Guyana’s hosting of the ICAO/EASA Third Global Regional Safety Oversight Organisation and Regional Accident and Incident Investigation Organisation Forum at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

Indar said local aviation operators now own more than 100 aircraft and helicopters for the first time in the country’s history.

He noted that Guyana had about 78 locally owned aviation assets in 2020, compared with approximately 110 by the end of 2025.

According to the minister, the increase reflects growing economic activity and higher passenger and cargo movement across Guyana, particularly in hinterland regions.

Aircraft movements also rose significantly during the period, increasing from 63,863 in 2020 to 99,508 by the end of 2025.

Indar said Guyana has also made significant improvements in aviation safety and regulatory oversight.

He noted that the country’s aviation security audit score increased from 62.9 per cent in 2016 to 80.1 per cent in 2021.

The minister also highlighted Guyana’s performance in audits conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization, which assessed areas including aviation legislation, airport operations, enforcement systems, personnel oversight and regulatory competence.

Guyana achieved a score of 63.4 per cent in those assessments, he said.
