Guyana’s top junior badminton players are gearing up to represent the nation in two international competitions this month, starting with the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay, from August 10–13.
The team comprises four players: Frank Waddell, Jonathan Debidin, Mishka Beharry, and Leshaunte Berkley, who will compete in both Singles and Mixed Doubles events. National Senior Men’s Champion Akili Haynes will serve as player-coach and manager of the squad.
Following the Pan Am Games, Haynes and the team will travel to Bridgetown, Barbados, for the CAREBACO Junior Team Tournament, scheduled for August 14–17. They will be joined by Ruel Rambiriche, although Waddell will not participate due to age restrictions.
The Guyanese team will compete against regional opponents in a Mixed Team Event featuring five categories: Boys’ Singles, Girls’ Singles, Boys’ Doubles, Girls’ Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
After the team event, the CAREBACO Individual Championships will take place from August 19–23, also in Barbados. A new group of players will join the squad for this leg, under the guidance of coach Nkosi Beaton. This contingent includes Yonneil Benjamin, Christopher Jordan, Joel Rambiriche, Anjaneysa Godette, and Liam Brumell, who will compete across the U11 to U19 age categories, ensuring strong representation for Guyana in these competitions.
