President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Monday swore in Justice Roxanne George-Wiltshire to perform the duties of Chancellor of the Judiciary and Justice Navindra Singh to act as Chief Justice.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Office of the President on Shiv Chandrapaul Drive in Georgetown. The appointments take effect from August 4.

The changes come as incumbent acting Chancellor, Justice Yonette Cummings-Edwards, proceeds on leave.

In brief remarks, President Ali said the appointments were made to ensure continuity and the efficient functioning of the judiciary.

He said the temporary assignments reflect the administration’s commitment to justice, fairness and the rule of law — key pillars of the country’s democratic system.
