The Region Three Chamber of Commerce and Industry (R3CCI) will launch its first Junior Chamber of Commerce in September.
The initiative, aimed at empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs and civic leaders in the region, targets young people between the ages of 16 and 30 as they prepare to serve critical sectors in Guyana’s evolving economy.
The announcement was made last week during the Board of Industrial Training’s (BIT) Try-A-Skill Exhibition at the West Central Mall — an event that brought together youth, business leaders and educators to explore hands-on trades and career pathways.
Speaking at the exhibition, Theon Alleyne, secretary and public relations officer of the Region Three Chamber, said the organisation is proud to forge the next wave of leaders in the region.
“Guyana is experiencing transformative growth, with unprecedented opportunities for every young person to elevate their quality of life. We’re pioneering a groundbreaking Junior Chamber of Commerce that will revolutionise how young people understand and engage with business,” the secretary said.
He said the new Junior Chamber will offer structured mentorship, practical business training, leadership development and direct exposure to real-world commerce. The programme complements existing TVET and academic efforts by rooting entrepreneurial ambition in civic responsibility, Alleyne added.
“We’re not just supporting youth, we’re empowering the next generation of leaders by not only providing them with a seat at the table, but also the tools, skills, and guidance to build their own table, and turn their potential into success.”
The BIT exhibition featured trades such as commercial food preparation, electrical installation, joinery and heavy-duty equipment operation.
Among those attending were Richard Maughn, chief executive officer of the Board of Industrial Training; Devanand Ramdatt, regional executive officer; Mitchroy Garnett, chairman of the Lust-en-Rust Community Development Council; Junior Cambridge, administrator of the Fellowship Practical Institution Centre; as well as representatives from the Ministry of Labour and the Region Three Department of Education.
