Sigma Engineers denies claims by Mohamed, threatens legal action

Sigma Engineers Ltd Inc has categorically rejected claims by Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed that it secured millions of dollars in government contracts through political affiliation, among other allegations, and says it has engaged legal counsel to pursue legal action over the allegations.
The company, in a statement, described the claims as serious misrepresentations of fact and said public discourse concerning businesses operating in Guyana should be grounded in accurate and verifiable information.
Sigma Engineers said it was not established five days before receiving a government contract, noting that it has been incorporated and operating in Bangladesh since 2003. The Guyana entity, Sigma Engineers Ltd Inc, was registered locally on October 6, 2022, the company said, with its first Guyana contract awarded in 2026 following a national competitive bidding process conducted through the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB).
The company also said Mohamed Aqtar Ali has been engaged by its Guyana operation in a senior technical consultant capacity and has no affiliation with the company in Bangladesh.
Sigma Engineers said it remains committed to conducting its operations in accordance with Guyana’s laws and regulations, and to maintaining high standards of professionalism, accountability and integrity, adding that further information would be provided as it continues to engage legal counsel on the matter.
