A man known only as “Blacka,” a 28-year-old unemployed male of mixed ancestry, was fatally stabbed on Thursday evening at the Kwakwani waterfront, allegedly by 24-year-old Daniel Hartman during a heated dispute over housing arrangements.
According to a police report, the suspect, Daniel Hartman, is the owner of a wooden house built on stilts approximately two feet above ground, which he shares with his 28-year-old brother, Nicholas Hartman. In August 2024, Daniel left his home to work in Georgetown, leaving Nicholas in charge of the premises.
Upon Daniel’s return around 22:00 hrs on Thursday, he discovered his brother and “Blacka” at the house. Questioning Nicholas about the visitor, he was informed that “Blacka” had been staying at the house while seeking employment. This prompted an argument between Daniel and “Blacka” over the latter’s presence in the home.
Nicholas reportedly left the house during the dispute, but upon returning 15 to 20 minutes later, found “Blacka” lying in a pool of blood on the floor of the hallway, with a knife nearby. He immediately contacted the police.
Police ranks arrived at the scene and found “Blacka” unresponsive. He was transported to the Kwakwani Hospital Complex, where he was examined by Dr Acher and later succumbed to his injuries. Medical personnel observed multiple stab wounds to the lower back and chest. The body is currently at the Kwakwani Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Following investigations, police located Daniel Hartman at the Kwakwani waterfront. Upon arrest and cautioning, he reportedly admitted to the stabbing, claiming that a scuffle broke out after “Blacka” refused to leave his home.
Daniel Hartman remains in police custody as investigations continue.
