The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has commenced the certification process for Omni Helicopters Guyana Inc. to receive a Guyana Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
This groundbreaking development marks a significant milestone in Guyana’s aviation industry, as Omni Helicopters is set to become the first local rotorcraft air operator certified to provide essential offshore flight services to the country’s rapidly expanding oil and gas sector.
The GCAA has emphasised that this initiative aligns with President Dr Irfaan Ali’s vision of strengthening local content and building capacity within the aviation sector. The acquisition of an AOC by Omni Helicopters will further develop local aviation expertise.
On Wednesday, GCAA Director General Lt Col (Ret’d) Egbert Field and his team met with senior representatives of Omni Helicopters to lay the groundwork for a thorough certification process.
The GCAA outlined key expectations for regulatory compliance, reiterating that safety and operational excellence are paramount.
Omni Helicopters has committed to meeting these rigorous standards by presenting comprehensive plans and documentation demonstrating adherence to stringent safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and crew training programmes.
The GCAA noted that the AOC certification process is meticulous, particularly for operators conducting offshore operations with large helicopters.
As the process continues, the GCAA and Omni Helicopters will collaborate closely to uphold safety, quality, and the highest standards of aviation practice.
Currently, Omni Helicopters is certified by the Brazilian Aeronautical Authority and provides offshore flights to Guyana’s oil and gas sector as a foreign air operator.
