With just one tractor and trailer, Puran Brothers Limited has grown from humble beginnings since its founding in 1987 to become a significant player in Guyana’s oil and gas industry.
Brothers Lakenauth and Taishnauth Puran started the company by pooling their resources to gradually invest in the necessary equipment and expand their business.
Initially focused on waste disposal for local communities, the company experienced steady but modest growth. However, as Guyana’s oil and gas industry began to flourish, Puran Brothers identified an opportunity to pivot and expand its services, ultimately establishing itself as a major player in the sector.
Today, the company specialises in the disposal and transportation of hazardous materials generated by oil drilling operations, operating a fleet of specialised vehicles and equipment designed to meet the industry’s unique demands.
The company’s growth has also been supported by its participation in the annual Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo, a pivotal event that has helped raise its profile within the industry. Impressions designed the artwork for their booth at the expo.
Assistant Manager of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) at Puran Brothers, Jason Carter, highlighted the importance of the event in their journey.
“We’ve definitely seen our traction grow significantly. It’s not just about showcasing our services but proving that local businesses like ours are capable of supporting this fast-growing industry,“ he explained.
The company’s ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the oil and gas sector has been a key factor in its success, as it continues to invest in cutting-edge equipment, safety protocols, and specialised training to meet the industry’s high standards.
A significant factor in Puran Brothers’ rise has been the introduction of Guyana’s Local Content Act. This legislation mandates that foreign oil companies engage with local businesses, providing them with opportunities to secure contracts in the sector.
Kishan Puran, the company’s director, shared how crucial the Act has been for their growth.
“We’re definitely benefiting from the Local Content Act. Because of it, we’ve secured a key spot in the oil and gas sector. We now work with major companies like ExxonMobil, SLB (formerly Schlumberger), and Guyana Shore Base,” Puran stated.
The Local Content Act has enabled Puran Brothers to expand its business and forge partnerships with some of the largest players in the industry.
