Davion Mars was crowned the first champion of the Pegasus Weekly Chess League with six points, as Oluwadare Oyeyipo beat Jaden Taylor in the final round to claim third place.

Mars had secured the title in Round 6, leaving Keron Sandiford, Oyeyipo and Taylor to contest the remaining podium places.

Oyeyipo built an advantage of about +5 by move 14 after a pawn recapture created a tactical pin. He won several pawns but lost a bishop as Taylor fought back.

A miscalculation by Taylor then let Oyeyipo regain the bishop, and with a commanding pawn advantage he forced Taylor's resignation on move 35.
Elsewhere, Sandiford defeated Martin Poon to take second place on tiebreaks. He and Oyeyipo both finished on five points.

Sachin Beharry was named Best Newcomer.

Season 2 begins on November 2, 2026, with updates on the Drayton's Chess Club Facebook page.

The league is organised by Drayton's Chess Club in partnership with the Pegasus Chess Club and the Guyana Chess Federation.
