President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced the launch of an annual Cycling Grand Prix, set to take place every Sunday in November along Georgetown’s Main Street, with a grand finale featuring a $500,000 top prize.
The announcement was made during a cycle race in Georgetown this morning, organised as part of the fourth anniversary celebrations of Men on Mission (MOM).
President Ali joined members of the MOM team and cyclists from various clubs for the event, which attracted participants across different age groups, from elite riders to young BMX competitors.
As part of the initiative, bicycles were presented to every child who competed in the BMX categories, encouraging greater participation among young people and supporting the development of cycling talent.
The initiative is expected to provide cyclists with additional opportunities to compete, showcase their abilities and engage more actively in the sport.
President Ali reaffirmed the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles, nurturing sporting talent and creating opportunities for Guyanese through community-based initiatives.
The event formed part of MOM’s broader efforts to encourage positive engagement, promote physical activity and support young people through sports and community development.
