Guyana’s culinary scene has earned another moment in the spotlight, with Nikkei Guyana being named the country’s Best Restaurant for 2026 at the 7TH Annual World Culinary Awards held in Jamaica, edging out three other nominees, including Aagman, Amici and Hard Rock Café Guyana.
The recognition marks another milestone for the Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant, which continues to showcase an approach to dining that blends culinary traditions with contemporary flavours and hospitality.
In a Facebook statement celebrating the achievement, Nikkei described the win as a proud moment for Guyana, saying it demonstrated that the country belongs among the leading destinations in global hospitality and gastronomy.
“A proud moment for Guyana. Last night, we stood on the world stage, proving that Guyana belongs among the very best…” the restaurant said.
The team extended appreciation to its business partners, the Government of Guyana, employees, guests and supporters, acknowledging their contributions to the restaurant’s journey.
“This victory belongs to all of us,” the statement added.
For Nikkei, however, the award represents more than a title. The restaurant said it was focused on raising standards, building a lasting legacy and helping to put Guyana on the global culinary map.
“We are not just building restaurants. We are building a legacy, raising standards, and putting Guyana on the global culinary map. This is only the beginning,” it stated.
The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) also congratulated Nikkei and the wider 592 Fusion Hospitality team, praising their creativity, dedication and hospitality.
THAG noted that the achievement shines a spotlight on Guyana’s growing culinary scene and the dining experiences available to visitors, as the country continues to develop its tourism and hospitality offerings.
The recognition provides another opportunity to showcase Guyana’s evolving food culture and the businesses working to make dining an increasingly important part of the visitor experience.
