A 47-year-old woman is among five persons in custody over the fatal chopping of 23-year-old labourer Chittesh Sukhai at Friendship Village, Corentyne, on Monday.
Also in custody are a 19-year-old and a 29-year-old man, along with two males, aged 28 and 23, who were arrested earlier.
Police said Sukhai, called "Rohan" and "Marsho", was injured at about 11:40pm. Preliminary investigations found that he was involved in an argument with a female relative, after which several males reportedly arrived at the location armed with cutlasses.
Sukhai was allegedly chopped several times about his body before fleeing the area and collapsing in a nearby yard.
He was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. His body was taken to Ramoo's Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Two cutlasses suspected to have been used were recovered in the vicinity.
