A 25-year-old driver has been released on $200,000 station bail as police investigate a September 14 accident on Auchlyne Public Road, Corentyne, that killed his 24-year-old partner.

Police said the man, of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, was driving motor car PYY 6384 west along the southern drive lane at about 10:20pm, at a fast rate of speed, when a donkey reportedly ran into its path from south to north. He allegedly swerved right to avoid a collision, lost control, and the car ended up in a trench on the northern side of the road.

The passenger, Reanna Ramkisson of Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne, was trapped in the vehicle. Citizens helped remove her, and she was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where she was treated for fluid in her lungs and kept under observation.

Ramkisson was discharged the following morning but was readmitted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after complaining of feeling unwell. She was placed in the Intensive Care Unit, where her condition was initially described as stable, but she died on September 21.

Police visited the scene and canvassed the area for CCTV footage, but found none. Investigations are continuing.
