Police have recovered a chopper suspected to have been used in the alleged murder of six-year-old Ifeng Cao at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, on Wednesday.
A 76-year-old Chinese national, a cook of Tuschen Public Road, East Bank Essequibo, was arrested and remains in Police custody.
Police said the incident occurred about 3:45pm. Ifeng, a Precious Lamb Primary School student of Johnson Street, Parika, had returned home from school and entered a restaurant in the same building, where the suspect was present.
The child sustained a chop wound to the back of his neck. He was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.
The chopper was lodged pending investigations. Police also obtained CCTV footage from the area, which is being reviewed.
The child's body is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are continuing.
