Ifeng Cao, a six-year-old Chinese national, died at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, on Wednesday after suffering a chop wound to the neck in an alleged murder.

A male Chinese national is in custody.

Police said initial enquiries found that the child was injured at about 3:45pm during an incident involving the man. The child was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police are investigating the incident.
