A Bun Bush Dam, East Canje, Berbice family was left traumatised after three armed men invaded their home, assaulted the father and threatened to kill his two young children while demanding cash.
The incident occurred at the home of Parsaram Arnold, 32. The suspects, armed with guns and cutlasses, stole $375,000 in cash and five cellphones valued at approximately $333,000, for a combined value of $708,000, along with a pair of gold earrings, a gold band and a gold chain, as well as snacks and beverages from the family's business.
According to Arnold, he was choked awake by one of the men, who repeatedly demanded to know where the money was. The suspects then turned on his eight-year-old son, striking him as he slept before he woke crying.
The men subsequently grabbed his seven-year-old daughter and held a cutlass to her neck, threatening to kill her unless he handed over cash. Arnold recounted surrendering money he had been keeping on behalf of his wife.
From there, the suspects took Arnold downstairs and continued searching the property, including his vehicle and business, making off with additional cash, jewellery and shop items. Their violence resurfaced after they noticed a band on his son's hand, slapping the child until he removed it.
The suspects, who wore no masks, eventually tied Arnold up before fleeing. He managed to free himself and moved his children to safety upstairs.
Arnold noted that he has lived at the property for more than 16 years without experiencing a similar incident, and has since sent his children to stay with their mother out of fear they may be targeted again.
Police confirmed that several persons have been questioned, and CCTV footage in the area has been identified and will be reviewed.
