A 38-year-old businessman was shot in the leg and robbed of three yellow-metal chains valued at approximately $720,000 during an alleged armed robbery at ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown on Saturday, police said.

The victim was in his yard using his mobile phone at about 11.30 p.m. when he was approached by two unidentified men wearing masks and reflective vests, police said. One of the men was reportedly armed with a handgun.

Police said the suspects confronted the businessman and attempted to take the chains he was wearing. During the confrontation, a shot was fired, striking him in the right leg above the knee.

The suspects then took the three chains and escaped.

Relatives took the victim to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he is receiving treatment. His condition is stable.
Police questioned several people and reviewed CCTV footage from the area as part of the investigation. No arrests have been made.
