A 32-year-old chef was beaten and robbed of $708,000 in cash and mobile phones after two armed men allegedly confronted him at his home in Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje, Berbice, early Sunday, police said.

The victim was asleep with his two young children at about 3 am when the men reportedly confronted him, assaulted him and threatened him and the children while demanding money.

Police said the suspects took $375,000 in cash and five mobile phones valued at $333,000 before escaping.

The victim was taken to New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was examined and treated before being discharged.

Police questioned several people and identified CCTV cameras in the area that will be reviewed as part of the investigation. No arrests have been made.
