A 26-year-old woman from Berbice has come forward with allegations of sexual assault following what she describes as a frightening experience at her home on Thursday night.
During an interview with Ignite News, the victim related that she had retired to bed with her daughter for the night when she was awakened by noises coming from both outside and inside the house.
She stated that she later encountered a male relative who allegedly entered the residence without permission.
“I hear a knock on the wall. When I peep, I didn’t see nobody, but this person move and go until behind the door there. So, like if I come out to open the door, he could run in. So I didn’t do that. Then I sleep again; me and my daughter got back to bed.
All of a sudden, I hear a sound like a foot stomp in the house. I jump up and look, and there [he was]. The tablet was on the bed. When I got to scramble for the tablet, he done rush up to me and snatch me,” she related.
The woman alleges that the suspect threatened her and her family, causing her to fear for her safety and preventing her from raising an alarm.
She further claimed that the man physically restrained her before sexually assaulting her.
“He said, ‘If you make any noise, everybody dead.’ I mean, if I make any sound, me and my daughter dead from the bed in the house. So I didn’t make any sound because I was very frightened. Then he carried me next to the fridge.
He said that today is his birthday and I didn’t give him nothing. I said, ‘I don’t have anything to give you.’ He said that because he hadn’t got what he wanted for so long, he was not leaving,” she further related.
The victim also alleged that, following the incident, the suspect warned her not to report the matter to the police or disclose it to anyone, threatening harm if she did.
The alleged assault was subsequently reported to the police and, according to information received, the suspect has been arrested.
An investigation is underway.
