Cargojet Airways Limited is set to commence operations in Guyana on Friday, launching a weekly cargo service under contract to DHL Express USA, as the country continues to expand its logistics and transport capacity.
The airline, following engagements between DHL executives and Public Utilities and Aviation Minister Deodat Indar earlier this year, will operate a non-scheduled weekly service on the Miami–Caracas–Georgetown–Medellín–Miami route.
Minister Indar congratulated DHL executives Maurice John and Xavier Cerruto ahead of the launch, describing Cargojet’s entry as reflective of growing opportunities in Guyana’s logistics and aviation sector.
Government data show international air cargo volumes rose from 7.6 million kilograms in 2020 to 14.4 million kilograms in 2025, an 88.5 per cent increase over five years, driven largely by imports of industrial equipment for the oil and gas sector and rising e-commerce activity.
Authorities said the upward trend continued into 2026, with a further 21 per cent increase in cargo volumes year-to-date, underscoring expanding demand for air freight services.
The arrival of Cargojet adds to existing international cargo operators serving Guyana, including LATAM Cargo and Avianca Cargo, which have expanded capacity and connectivity in recent years.
