Guyana is “ripe with opportunities” across all sectors, Senior Minister with Responsibility for Finance Dr Ashni Singh said on Tuesday, as regional companies launched trade talks in Guyana aimed at securing new investments.
Singh told visiting Caribbean business delegates that the country was undergoing an “extraordinary period of economic growth and an extraordinary period of economic transformation”, driven by rapid expansion in oil production, infrastructure development and rising private sector activity.
He said Guyana’s rapid economic expansion was creating opportunities across multiple sectors, adding that “Guyana is ripe with opportunity for doing business in every single sector.”
The remarks came as 58 delegates representing more than 30 Trinidad and Tobago companies began the Guyana leg of a trade and investment mission organised by the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC) in partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association (TTMA).
The mission will involve structured business-to-business meetings, government consultations and market exploration activities in Guyana and Suriname, with potential deals spanning joint ventures, distributorship agreements, service contracts and investment partnerships.
SGCC said the 2026 mission builds on last year’s edition, which generated more than 300 curated meetings and over US$300 million in reported business opportunities and deals across both countries.
Participating companies were matched with potential partners after months of consultation and profiling, including government agencies, distributors, manufacturers, suppliers and investors.
SGCC Operations Manager and Incoming CEO (Ag.), Saudia Persaud, said the initiative reflects growing regional integration efforts, while TTMA President Emil Ramkissoon said it highlights the importance of expanding Caribbean businesses beyond domestic markets.
Singh said Guyana, which began oil production in 2019, is currently producing about 930,000 barrels per day and is expected to exceed one million barrels per day before the end of 2026.
The mission continues with a series of pre-arranged meetings in Guyana before delegates travel to Suriname for the second phase of engagements.
