Persons interested in becoming beekeepers in Region Nine are being offered the opportunity to receive free training through the Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA).

The Regional Agriculture Department says it is working in collaboration with the GLDA’s Stock Farm, St. Ignatius to deliver relevant training that will enable participants to establish and maintain their own beehives.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Agriculture Department, the Parijarrada Beekeeping Group and other beekeeping groups across the region, to promote and develop the local honey industry.

The Parijarrada Beekeeping Group was among the beneficiaries of equipment distributed during the launch of the Regional Honey Project, held in Nappi Village on May 7, 2026, by Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha.

During the activity, complete beehives, tools and other essential equipment were handed over to beneficiaries to support their beekeeping activities.

The Regional Agriculture Department says that the GLDA, through the Ministry of Agriculture, will continue to provide monitoring, training, technical support and follow-up assistance to beekeepers throughout Region Nine as efforts continue to expand the honey industry.
