Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Aubrey Norton, says he is keen on delivering a vibrant, youthful team to contest the 2030 elections as the party recuperates from the departure of several key figures following its historic loss at the recent 2025 polls.
Speaking on KAMS TV on Tuesday, Norton said he would remain party leader for as long as the membership allows, but has no intention of contesting the 2030 polls. Instead, he said he would offer his expertise to ensure new life and energy are brought to the party.
“I genuinely believe that you need a generation that is in touch and can relate to those aged 35 and under, and I will mould that generation to become the presidential candidate and a team… it’s about creating a team that can work together and move Guyana forward,” Norton explained.
Addressing the departure of key party figures, including those who returned to the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) after the 2025 polls, Norton highlighted his intention to ensure genuine people are placed in senior positions. He alleged that many who joined the APNU/AFC in 2015 served their own interests, while some seasoned members felt entitled to hold key positions.
“There are those who believe that they have a right to be there. They see no scope for bringing in new blood and creating new opportunities. That group, to me, is the most dangerous group because they will do anything to stay there,” he said.
Norton said he intends to restore discipline within the PNCR and is keen on encouraging new people, but consideration will be given to how they are elevated and given leverage within the party.
