A father is mourning the loss of his 23-year-old son, who was among three people killed in a head-on collision on the Corentyne Public Road on Tuesday, after a final conversation in which the young man vowed to “prove himself and be better.”

Safraz Mursalin, of Chesney Village, Corentyne, said his son, Priyas Mursalin, had recently been in conflict with him over the company he kept, but had visited home on Sunday in what now appears to be their last meeting.

Speaking to Ignite News, the grieving father recalled warning his son repeatedly about his associations and road safety concerns.

He said tensions had developed after Priyas frequently travelled with friends on motorbikes, which he believed placed him at risk.

However, Mursalin said his son’s final visit carried a moment of reconciliation.
“I asked him if he’s not going to come home back. He said, ‘Daddy, me got to prove myself to you, me want prove myself and show you that I’m going to be a better person.’ That’s all he told me. That’s the last word I hear from his mouth,” he said.

Priyas Mursalin was a passenger in motor car PLL 4312 along with 19-year-old Ameer Khan and 16-year-old Porshatam Hoolasia when the vehicle was involved in a fatal collision along the Madia Farm Public Road, Corentyne.

The father said he later received news of the crash and rushed to the hospital, where he identified his son’s body.
He also referenced conflicting accounts circulating about the circumstances of the crash, including claims about who was driving at the time of the collision.

“We hear from certain people… that he was in the back seat and the driver was speeding… he tried to overtake a vehicle and he lose control,” he said.

Police investigations into the fatal crash are continuing.
