A 10-month-old boy in Guyana is facing a life-threatening rare brain condition that is destroying brain cells, as his family urgently seeks funds for further diagnostic testing and initial treatment abroad in a bid to save his life.

Imarah Radix is appealing for public assistance to help treat her son, Spencer Radix, after doctors identified a severe neurological disorder that has left him unable to meet basic developmental milestones.

The child cannot sit up, roll over properly, hold his head steadily, or eat solid food, prompting initial concerns that led to medical investigations including an MRI and EEG. According to the family, results later confirmed a rare brain disease affecting neurological development.

Radix said specialists described the condition in alarming terms, comparing the child’s brain deterioration to that of a much older patient with advanced dementia.

She said the diagnosis has left the family devastated and uncertain about his future.
The family is now raising US$16,000 to cover further diagnostic testing and initial treatment abroad, with plans to take him to a specialist hospital in Colombia next week.

So far, about US$11,000 has been raised through donations from relatives, friends and members of the public.

Radix said doctors have also raised the possibility of a mitochondrial DNA disorder, which may be inherited and could lead to rapid deterioration if organ function is affected.

She said she has also sought government assistance, including writing to the Office of the President, but has not yet received a response.

Donations and inquiries can be made via email at Imarah.radix@gmail.com or WhatsApp at 676-7326.
