Repeated acts of vandalism and theft at the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School have raised concerns among education officials, with authorities appealing to residents to help protect the institution.

Regional Education Officer La Shanna Anderson said the school has been repeatedly targeted by vandals despite measures including a 10-foot concrete fence, additional security guards and surveillance cameras.

“The Christianburg Wismar Secondary School continues to be under attack,” Anderson said, noting that property has been damaged and educational resources stolen.

She said even surveillance cameras were vandalised and there was an attempt to set the school on fire.

The latest incident occurred on Tuesday evening when thieves reportedly stole projectors, computers, printers, HDMI cables and other items from several departments.

Agricultural science students preparing for their 2026 CSEC School-Based Assessments were also affected after crops planted for projects were stolen, Anderson said.

Televisions were also removed from classrooms and hidden elsewhere on the compound, suggesting the perpetrators intended to return, she added.

The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation as authorities continue to urge residents to report suspicious activity.
