The Farmers Connect App, a digital platform linking farmers with extension officers, market information, and technical support, has been officially launched by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture Vikash Ramkissoon described the launch as a major step in modernising the sector and expanding access to government services, particularly for farmers in remote areas. “Today is a very, very historic day for the agriculture sector…we are moving to digitise government services across every sector of this country,” Ramkissoon said.
The app provides real-time price updates, weather information, and a direct communication channel for farmers seeking assistance. It is designed to reduce delays, improve response times, and cut travel costs.
Farmers welcomed the initiative. Roulette Bacchus said it allows farmers to access solutions quickly. “Sometimes you does got a problem in the farm and you don’t know who to call. So with the app now, you could just go on it and send the message and somebody will respond. It will save time and money,” Bacchus said.
Anan Lololi added that the platform improves information access for rural communities. “If you could get the information right on your phone, it make things easier and faster for we in the farming community,” he said.
The app is now available for download as part of broader efforts to improve efficiency, productivity, and responsiveness in the agriculture sector.
