A post-mortem examination has confirmed that 52-year-old Ravinand Yudheshwar Bishram, known as “Ravi,” died from asphyxia and bronchoaspiration, caused by inhalation of blood into the airway and lungs.
The autopsy was conducted yesterday by Dr. Brigmohan at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital Mortuary between 08:17 hrs and 08:45 hrs and was witnessed by a team of police led by an Inspector.
The body was later released to relatives for burial.
Bishram, a long-term patient of the facility and formerly of 6 Cumberland, East Canje, reportedly suffered injuries following an altercation with another patient in the hospital’s acute ward.
His caretaker, Diaram Singh, 59, of 93 Palmyra Village, in an interview told Ignite News that he received conflicting reports about what happened.
“They tell me that Ravi end up in a thing, somebody hit him or he fall down or something… so I went there immediately,” Singh had told Ignite News.
According to Singh, doctors reportedly provided different accounts, that Bishram may have fallen and injured himself or been struck by another patient. Singh added that marks of violence had been observed on his body, prompting the post-mortem.
