The Guyana Police Force said the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Tint) Regulations 2026 took legal effect on January 1 after being published in the Official Gazette.
The regulations set out permissible vehicle tint levels and establish the framework for enforcement. Authorities have granted a three-month amnesty period, running until March 31, 2026, to allow motorists time to bring their vehicles into compliance.
During the amnesty period, no penalties will be imposed for non-compliant tints. Motorists are encouraged to make the necessary adjustments to meet the prescribed standards.
Full enforcement of the regulations will begin on April 1, 2026. From that date, motorists found in breach of the tint rules will be subject to the fines and penalties предусмотрed under the law.
The Guyana Police Force has urged vehicle owners and operators to familiarise themselves with the new requirements and comply within the amnesty period to avoid penalties once enforcement begins.
