Randy Smith escapes from Matthews Ridge custody

Police have launched an investigation into the escape of Randy James Smith from lawful custody at Matthews Ridge in the North West District.

Smith was being held in connection with the alleged rape of a child under the age of 16. Police said the investigation into the sexual offence has been completed and the suspect was due to be formally charged.

Authorities said efforts are under way to locate and recapture Smith and urged members of the public to provide any information that could assist in his swift arrest.
