Christmas Day brought more than festive celebrations and family gatherings to the East Berbice–Corentyne region this year. Six precious new lives filled the maternity wards with the cries of newborns and hearts brimming with gratitude and joy.

Four of the babies were delivered at the recently commissioned #75 Hospital, marking a heartwarming milestone for the new facility, while two others were born at New Amsterdam Hospital.

For each mother, the arrival of their Christmas baby came with a story of patience, strength, and unexpected happiness.
Among them was 28-year-old Nafana Willis, who was overdue and did not anticipate giving birth on Christmas Day.

After a challenging journey that ended in a Caesarean section, she expressed deep relief and joy.

“I feel tremendous joy for the fact that she came and everything went well,” Willis shared. “It was not an easy journey.”

For 32-year-old Amanda Albert, it took three expected delivery dates before her baby finally arrived. Christmas Day, however, became the special moment her little one decided to make an entrance.

“I’m glad that me and my baby came through safe and all the mothers came through safe for Christmas Day,” Albert said with a smile.

Nineteen-year-old Felicia Narine also welcomed her newborn after some discomfort prompted her to visit the hospital. Expecting to deliver after Christmas, she was pleasantly surprised by her baby’s festive arrival.

“The nine months were okay. I had pain, that’s why I came to the hospital,” she said. “I feel good that the baby was born on the day.”
Twenty-eight-year-old Kenesha Halley, who had two due dates—December 12 and December 22—described delivering on Christmas as both shocking and exciting.

“It is a very nice experience to deliver my baby on Christmas Day,” Halley said.
At New Amsterdam Hospital, 18-year-old Sarah Manroop welcomed a bouncing baby boy she plans to name Kaleb, a biblical name she described as genuine and meaningful. With her due date set for December 24, she had a strong feeling her baby would arrive on Christmas.

“I’m so happy for my Christmas baby. It’s my little gift,” Manroop said.
Also celebrating a Christmas birth was 33-year-old Samantha Rajaram, who had been expected to deliver on December 23. Her baby arrived two days later, right on Christmas Day.

“Part was hard, part was easy,” she reflected.
While many unwrapped gifts beneath Christmas trees, these parents received the greatest blessing of all: six beautiful babies, born on a day of love, hope, and giving.
