THAG sees new era for travel and tourism with opening of Grenada Consulate

The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) has welcomed the opening of Grenada’s Honorary Consulate in Georgetown, calling it a “significant step toward advancing diplomatic, tourism, and economic cooperation between the two nations.”

The Consulate, opened on Monday, will be led by Honorary Consul Komal Singh, former Chairman of the Private Sector Commission. THAG extended congratulations to Dr. Singh, noting that “his appointment positions the Consulate to play a key role in strengthening connectivity, supporting joint initiatives, and encouraging increased collaboration across the tourism and hospitality sectors.”

According to THAG, the establishment of the Consulate reflects President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s broader vision of enhanced regional tourism partnerships. “With both Guyana and Grenada offering distinct but complementary tourism products,” the Association said, highlighting the potential for multi-destination packages, coordinated marketing efforts, and deeper regional engagement.

The new Consulate also builds on recent cooperation between the two countries, including the Guyana–Grenada Trade Mission and the introduction of direct air travel, developments viewed as pivotal to expanding business opportunities, improving travel links, and facilitating cultural exchange.

As Guyana’s tourism sector continues its rapid growth, THAG said it is ready to support this strengthened bilateral relationship. The Association expressed optimism about “collaborating with Dr. Singh, as well as government officials in both countries, to advance initiatives that promote shared prosperity and elevate the regional profile of their respective tourism industries.”
