Mohameds’ extradition case: Court sets dates for final arguments

U.S.-indicted Guyanese businessman Nazar Mohamed and his son, Azruddin Mohamed, appeared in Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Friday as extradition proceedings against them advanced to a new stage.

During the hearing, prosecutors completed their final round of disclosure, submitting the last set of documents and evidence requested in the case. With disclosure now closed, the Mohameds’ attorneys requested additional time to prepare their submissions, citing the volume and complexity of the material provided.

The Magistrate granted the request and scheduled December 4 for the defence to deliver its oral submissions. Counterarguments from the prosecution are expected on December 8, at which point both sides will formally present their positions before the case moves to its next phase.

The proceedings arise from a U.S. federal indictment in which Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed are wanted on charges linked to alleged financial crimes, including money laundering and related offences. The upcoming hearings are expected to determine whether the evidentiary threshold has been met for the men to be committed for extradition to the United States.
