Two men are in police custody after ranks in Regional Division 5 intercepted a vehicle carrying a quantity of suspected cannabis during a stop-and-search operation on the Weldaad Public Road, West Coast Berbice.
The discovery was made on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at approximately 15:40 hrs, when officers stopped a white Toyota Fielder wagon with two male occupants. A search of the vehicle and the individuals led to the discovery of four bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic.
The parcels, which contained leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, were found concealed in two multicoloured shopping bags in the trunk of the car.
The driver, a 28-year-old man of Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, and the passenger, a 20-year-old labourer also of New Amsterdam, were arrested at the scene.
They were escorted, along with the suspected narcotics and the vehicle, to the Weldaad Police Station.
The substance was weighed in their presence and amounted to 45.4 pounds before being lodged.
Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
