A scene of the accident last night

Two young men lost their lives on Monday night following a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a car at the intersection of Proctor Road and Kara Kara Public Road, Linden.

Dead are 19-year-old Latrel Whinfield, an operator of Wisroc Housing Scheme, Linden, who was riding motorcycle CP 6912, and Isaiah Richards, a student whose age and address are yet to be confirmed. Richards was the pillion rider.

The accident occurred around 20:30 hrs and involved motor car PAE 7246, driven by a 45-year-old excavator operator of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

According to the Guyana Police Force, preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcycle was proceeding east along the Kara Kara Public Road at a fast rate of speed when it collided with the right side of the car, which was turning north onto Proctor Road. The impact flung both Whinfield and Richards onto the roadway, resulting in severe injuries.

The two were picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where they were pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. Their bodies were later escorted to the Gjetsco Funeral Home Mortuary for storage, pending post-mortem examinations.

Both vehicles have been lodged at the Mackenzie Police Station for examination, and CCTV footage from the area will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. The driver of the motor car remains in police custody.
